Swim and Surf at the Surfing Capital of the Philippines

I have a friend, we call her "babes, bangkay, or banks. She shared with me her surfing experience in Siargao. She told me that ever since she was a kid, she would always want to try surfing but of course, her mother won't allow her because it is dangerous. For so long, she has been admiring people who got to surf the waves in Siargao. That's why she told herself that she would definitely try it once she would go back to the island. Anyway, she is old enough to take care of herself. Finally, the long wait is over, she got to visit the island once again and she already planned out when to do it. She asked her cousin for help since he was a local there and he knows where the good spots that are free. She traveled from Dapa to Sta. Monica was where her cousin's house is located and it took about 2 hours before she arrived. The surfing spot is not too far from his house so they just ride his motorcycle to get there. His cousin also asked his friend to be her trainer/guide in surfing and fortunately, he was too kind to help her out.

They rented out surfing boards, longboard specifically which is best for beginners. From there they went to the surfing spot and she shared that longboards are really heavy. She felt more excited than nervous because finally, she will be stepping out of her comfort zone and is trying to explore things that she has been skeptical about in the past.

She couldn't contain her excitement because got to do what she want to do without fear and just actually going for it. She hasn't started surfing yet but she feels like she already achieved something.

Her trainer arrived and then he helped her get settled and then off we go. As they arrived at where most of the waves are crashing, he gave her some reminders about what to do when there are big waves coming so that the board won't hit her, but unfortunately, it happened and hit her forehead, but it was fine, she said with assurance. She said at least she unlocked a new experience. Since she was still a beginner, whenever a good wave is coming their way, her trainer will tell her to get on the board and position herself correctly so that she won't fall once the wave comes. He would push her board forward so that she could surf where the wave is going, and then it was all on her to try to stand up and balance herself and ride the waves. She fell several times because she was having a hard time standing up and balancing herself considering the waves were really big and it would definitely eat her immediately if she don't get the right timing.

It took her many tries but of course, she was determined to make the most out of the moment. So, after trying so many times and learning the timing, she was able to stand up and balance herself on the board, surfing like a pro...but she was just kidding. Surfing is tiring, that's what she can say because every time you fall you have to immediately get yourself out underwater because there are more waves following, and if you're too slow, you will definitely get swayed by the waves.

It was a whole new experience for her and it was totally worth it. It just made her realize that if you are willing to release yourself from doubts and fear and just be confident to try new things, you will be proud and happy for yourself.

That's what made her very happy and now she is starting to list down the new things she would do next, enthusiastically looking forward.
